The total length of this large ceremonial Four Winds pipe is 26" long. We believe this pipe would make a great chanupa for someone who will be dancing this coming summer. Sacred Catlinite or Pipestone as it is commonly referred to is a type of stone that has been used for ceremonial pipes for 100's of years. It is believed by many to have originated from the blood of ancestors that have passed on.
This fancy ceremonial 4-winds bowl measures 6-1/16" long and it is 3-1/2" tall. This is a traditional 4-winds pipe. This is a variation of the 4-winds style of pipe that we often do. This pipe has a "square shank" where the stem is inserted. We also added some little designs to the square part of the pipe as well as a few grooves at the front and top of the pipe bowl, to further enhance the beauty of it.
The rings and designs on this pipe were put on the pipe bowl after the pipe had been waxed, which has become a pretty common practice for us, simply because people really seem to like it. It allows you to see the natural color of the stone and provides for a nice contrast in the piece.
The pipestone or catlinite that was used for this pipe is simply dazzling. It's a beautiful dark red color throughout all of the pipe. The stone is also very spotted throughout all of it. Stone like this, with all of these 'stars' in it, is some of the most sought after stone in the world. It's an exceptionally beautiful piece of stone.
The pipe is signed on the bottom by Hapan. The stem is made out of California Redwood. It is beaded in traditional Sioux style and has some nice long deer leather fringes as well.
