Native American Ceremonial Effigy or Animal Pipes |

| 11-1/4" Pipestone Buffalo Pipe |
This is a smaller personal pipe that is handcrafted out of Sacred Pipestone or catlinite. (the name that was given it after the famed explorer George Catlin visited the area) This is the stone, that for 100's of years, Native Americans from all over the continent traveled (sometimes for weeks or months) to Pipestone MN to quarry and try to obtain some of the precious material to carve into personal or ceremonial pipes.
This buffalo pipe is made out of a piece of the stone that is dark red over virtually 100% of it. Interspersed throughout the pipe is 100's and possibly 1000's of very small spots or 'stars'.
It seems natural to make a peace pipe with a buffalo on it. The buffalo provided every single neccessity to the Plains Indians from their clothing to their food to their lodging and even provided some of the things they needed for tools. It was critical to their very survival.
This pipe will measure 11-1/4" long, when the stem is inserted. The bowl itself measures 2-7/8" long and it is 1-7/8" tall. There is some extra-ordinary craftsmanship in this pipe, (especially considering the smaller size of the pipe and the buffalo) including details showing the tail, the mouth, the horns, and the matted fur on the buffalo's back. The eventual owner of this pipe is sure to be extremely pleased with their purchase!
The stem is made out of California Redwood. It is decorated with leather fringes and traditional Sioux beadwork. This pipe has excellent draw and the bowl has been reamed out to allow for a nice amount of tobacco. This will be a very nice personal or ceremonial pipe for someone. The pipe is signed by Hapan.
