This dance rattle is 16" long and constructed with deer or elk leather, buffalo hide, Czech glass sead beads and a couple of turkey feathers. I am not 100% certain of what the rattle itself is made out of, but I'm guessing rawhide. It is 2 pieces that have been sewed together. I am also guessing that there are some type of seeds in the rattle itself.
The piece is expertly crafted. Every single bead on the handle is nice and tight and the buffalo hide is not going anywhere!
The rattle is painted with colors of the 4-directions.
There is some type of stain on part of the handle and if you enlarge the photo, you may be able to pick that up. I personally think it adds character & you shouldn't let it stop you from purchasing it if it is something you or someone you know can use.
