| 23" Catlinite 4-Winds Pipe |
The total length of this catlinite ceremonial pipe is 23-3/16" long. Catlinite or Pipestone as it is commonly referred to is a type of stone that has been used for ceremonial pipes for 100's of years. Catlinite pipes were most common among the Plains Indians, as the territory that the stone comes from was known as 'Sioux' territory.
The ceremonial 4-winds bowl measures just a hair short of being 6" long and it's 3-5/16" tall. This is a traditional 4-winds pipe.
The rings and designs on this pipe were put on the pipe bowl after the pipe had been waxed. That allows you to see the natural color of the stone and provides for a nice contrast in the piece.
This pipe is mostly a red color and it also has just a couple of 'stars' or spots in it.
The pipe is signed by 'Hapan'. The stem is made out of California Redwood. It is decorated with deer leather fringes and beaded in traditional Sioux style. The beads are set upon some nice soft leather with fringes that hang down.
The pipe is fully functional, will smoke great, and will make an outstanding ceremonial pipe for someone.
