Red Willow Bark or can'sa'sa as it is also referred to is often used as part of a ceremonial tobacco mixture. It is probably the most common ingredient other than the tobacco itself. It can be mixed with bearberry leaves and/or tobacco to make a ceremonial smoking mixture.
Can'sa'sa can also be smoked by itself. I've heard it recommended by one elder to smoke a small amount in the morning and a small amount in the evening. This particular item has many, many, medicinal qualities. You can chew on the bark for a headache, it is supposed to be good for asthsma, I've heard of making an oil using this and olive oil to use as a treatment for the eye. The list goes on and on....
