31" Native American Sun or Disc Pipe |
This is an authentic Native American Sun or Disc pipe that was handcrafted out of Steatite or Black Pipestone.
Steatite is a material that has been used for centuries by Native Americans to craft Sacred Pipes, pots and pans, spoons, and many other items out of. Steatite stands up exceptionally well to high temperatures, so it is an ideal material to use for ceremonial pipes.
The total length of this large pipe, including the stem is 31-3/8" long. The bowl itself measures 8" long and about 1-3/8" tall. The disc part of the pipe is 3-5/16" across. If you look closely at the pictures, you may also notice that there are several "tally" marks along the very front of the bowl.
The hardwood ash stem measures 24" long and is about 1-7/8" wide. The stem is decorated with a couple of cutouts. There are several holes drilled through the stem where things that are important to you can be hung from. As you can see on the photo's, there is a black horsehair drop that is suspended from the stem using a soft piece of deer leather, artificial sinew, and antique red trade cloth.
