The rings and designs on this pipe were put on the pipe bowl after the pipe had been waxed, which has become a pretty common practice for us, simply because people really seem to like it. It allows you to see the natural color of the stone and provides for a nice contrast in the piece.

The pipestone or catlinite that was used for this pipe is dazzling. It's a beautiful dark red color over most of the pipe. The very bottom of it has a little bit of a lighter color. It also has some very small spots or "stars" in it. It's an exceptionally beautiful piece of stone. The stone used for this pipe is from the bottom layer of pipestone. It's generally a little harder stone, but it's always the most beautiful stone and it's often used to make large, important, ceremonial pipes.

The pipe is signed on the bottom by Hapan. The stem is made out of Hardwood Ash. It has been beaded in 2 places with a fancy design. The beadwork is done on leather and has some nice long fringes.
